Fiona Logan

NAME:Fiona Logan. Her close friends call her ‘Fi’ for short.

AGE: 25

SPECIES:Witch

BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Fiona was born to an American mother and a Scottish father, both of whom hail from families of strong witches. She spent the first six years of her life in the Scottish countryside, surrounded by her parents’ coven. In the year following the birth of her brother, Wallace, Fiona and her family left Scotland for her mother’s home town of Siren Cove, Maine, to be closer to her side of the family.

Fiona grew up in Siren Cove from the age of six to fourteen; her mother, originally hailing from the town, homeschooled Fiona and Wallace in an attempt to keep them sheltered from the effects of the rivalry in town. She couldn’t outright keep the truth from them, but she only told them as little as she could get away with in regards to Siren Cove’s history. Fiona, naturally curious, discovered more during trips to the library. She discovered her penchant for illusionary magic when she began disguising books about Siren Cove’s bloody past to look like the innocent children’s books her mother assumed she was reading.

Fiona grew up with magic; both of her parents nourished it within her and her brother both from the time they could walk. Fiona gravitated towards illusionary magic while Wallace tended towards water magic. Though their parents never admonished them for their abilities, it became clear to Fiona that both herself and her brother were not living up to their family’s expectations. This only served as a catalyst for her desires to hone her own magical passions; and though she loved her family dearly, said passions lead to a fair amount of arguments and fights, causing Fiona to get into a fair amount of trouble. She began sneaking out at night with her friends, both to practice magic and to partake in serious stunts, such as leaping off a ferris wheel. Her parents, of course, were not amused.

Eventually, Fiona moved away from Siren Cove when her parents and her aunt, the last of her mother’s remaining family within Siren Cove, grew concerned regarding the tension within the town and Fiona’s reckless behavior. They settled further away in Bar Harbor, in the hopes that Fiona would grow more responsible in a less hostile environment. As sad as Fiona was to leave Siren Cove, and the gaggle of friends she’d managed to make while there, even while homeschooled, she absolutely adored Bar Harbor. She settled down as she grew older, though she still had plenty of arguments with her family. She continued excelling in illusionary magic, while failing at her parents’ attempts to teaching her their fire magic.

Now, having graduated college with a degree in graphic design and a minor in costuming, Fiona returns to Siren Cove having spent the past three years meandering through Scotland and Boston in an attempt to find herself. After an enormous fight, her parents are barely speaking to one another, and her brother, Wallace, is studying abroad in Scotland. She comes to Siren Cove compelled by both her curiosity and her tendency towards dancing with danger, as well as, ironically, to escape the tensions within her own family.

PERSONALITY: Fiona is a huge nerd and proud. Despite the fact that she works on advanced video games, the only video game she actually has any sort of passion for is Pokemon. She will belt out the theme song if given the chance (or, God help the poor soul who asks, the Pokerap) and loves dorking out about it with other people. She also really wants to be a sailor scout. And Indiana Jones. She’s been to a few conventions and she’s done her fair share of cosplays; her personal favorite is the Martha Jones look she pulled off for a con in Boston a few years ago.

She has a burning passion for the 1980s, both in terms of music and aesthetic. “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul is totally her anthem and she loves using the vibrant color schemes of the 80s in her every day look. She’s also the sort of person to walk around with leg warmers on just for the hell of it, even in the summer. But she also really loves modern pop music and has zero tolerance for music snobs. She will jump at the chance for karaoke at every given opportunity, and has been known to hog the mic on more than one occasion.

She’s outgoing and loves trying new things; she’ll ride every rollercoaster and she’s never met a cliff she hasn’t wanted to climb. She’s a daredevil; she loves doing things like parkour and throwing knives. She’s also prone to peer pressure and taking risks she really shouldn’t, like the one time she went skinny dipping in December and almost wound up in the hospital for it. And, of course, she’ll always try to egg on her friends into taking risks with her.

Fiona is both fiercely independent and stubborn, and combined with her insatiable curiosity, it can certainly cause her to be an utter ass; if she believes she’s right, she will go through hell and high water to prove it. She has a difficult time forgiving people she believes have wronged her. In line with her geek tendencies, she also harbors the bad habit of arguing with people on the internet.

She swears like a sailor, especially when flustered and/or drunk, and she is terrible around children. Seriously, don’t trust her around any person under the age of twelve.

She tends to avoid asking for help until she absolutely needs it; in spite of her typically perky personality, Fiona tends to keep her worries and troubles to herself, such as the disappointment she knows her parents’ feel in regards to her magical abilities and the obvious, growing strain on their marriage. Hell, one of the reasons she returns to Siren Cove is to avoid the awkwardness surrounding her parents, her extended family in America, and their friends.

She has a greater tendency towards sadness than she realizes and lacks a healthy way to address it; she rarely opens up about her feelings unless someone confronts her on them. But she is a loyal friend and she will do anything for those she truly cares about. She just needs to get better at taking care of herself, as well.

OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: Obviously, as a witch who grew up in Siren Cove, Fiona is aware of the rivalry. She finds it absolutely fascinating from both perspectives, though, as a witch, she tends to side and sympathize with the Coombs over the Thorntons. She attempts to keep her bias in check, but when excited and/or angered, her loyalty towards her fellow witches flares up.

LIFESTYLE: Fiona does well enough for herself; technically speaking, she can be classified somewhere in the middle class. She makes most of her own clothes, and she shops at thrift stores for what she doesn’t make herself, which frees up some of her money towards her geeky habbits. Moving back to Siren Cove, she lives in a relatively small but comfortable apartment, which is always a disaster area of books, clothing and fabric, DVDs, CDs, and all the magical knick knacks she’s collected over the years. Fiona works at a local software company as a graphic designer for video games, while designing her own costumes on the side. She does take commissions, particularly for Halloween costumes and cosplay. Secretly, she wishes she could devote her entire career to costume design, but she’s pretty happy where she is, jobwise.

She’s pansexual, but entirely oblivious to most attempts at flirting. Seriously, she needs the whole ‘brick over head’ treatment if anyone wants to break ground with her. She’s currently single and enjoying it; considering her parents, who have also served as an example of what love should be like for Fiona, are struggling with their own marriage, she’s a bit wary about relationships at the moment.

POWERS & ABILITIES: Fiona comes from a family of witches who employ their magic for power; the more difficult the incantations the witch performs, the greater respect they earn. The daughter of a pair of powerful witches who both specialize in fire magic, Fiona was as delighted by the fact of her prowess in illusionary magic as her parents were disappointed by it. She can pull actual rabbits out of hats, conjure ribbons in the air, make colors shift in the fabrics that she works with, change the color of her hair at will, etc. She also delights in using charms; typically, she likes to imbue the fabrics she works with in her costume design with small, delightful charms such as: bringing the wearer a feeling of peace for a brief period of time, finding a hundred dollar bill on the ground, etc. Of course, if someone pisses her off, she’s not above using charms for petty revenge. For that to occur, though, someone really, really has to make Fiona angry.

Mostly, she uses her magic the way an artist paints. Fiona especially excels at casting glamours, a skill that has come in handy more than once when she’s needed to make a hasty getaway, or when she’s needed to sneak her own supply of chocolate into the house. She’s especially fond of making herself appear like flowers flowing away on the breeze, so if one happens to find some rose petals blowing by on a sunny afternoon, chances are that it’s Fiona.

In some aspects, she does keep with her family’s traditions: she uses a wand passed down through her family for as far back as they can trace it to help focus her magic; she’s also especially fond of using various stones and incense to also enhance her magic.

She can transfigure inanimate objects into different forms, but she cannot transform herself like a shifter. When it comes to scrying and using more complicated bits of magic, particularly, offensive magic and the fire magic beloved by her parents, Fiona greatly struggles. She’s working on trying to at least improve her scrying, but she has had little luck so far. When her attempts at magic fail, she accidentally releases small sparks around her. Nothing dangerous or harmful; just slightly shocking and another hurdle for her to climb.
